Chiang Mai Golf Courses

CHIANGMAI GREEN VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB

Green Valley is an excellent, championship caliber 18-hole golf course that is beautifully landscaped and well maintained. It features an abundance of well placed sand bunkers and lots of water that can come into play on nearly every hole on the course. The fairways are ample and mostly level. The greens are large, receptive to approach shots, and putting speed is moderate to slightly fast. However, course length, numerous elevation changes, and prevailing wind makes Green Valley a tough but fair challenge to golfers of all skill levels. The course drains exceptionally well during the wet season and benefits from the nearly constant "good air" breeze of the Mae Rim area. The beautiful clubhouse provides full features and service: a polite & professional staff, well-stocked Pro Shop, dining & refreshment areas, locker room facilities, and luxurious health spa services.

18 Hole Yardage: Blue Tees-7202 White Tees- 6490 Red Tees- 5509

Designed by Dennis Griffiths, the same architect as the Bangkok Thai Country Club, the Green Valley layout is one of the best kept in Chiang Mai. Green Valley is a long and testing course with water on almost every hole. This second Green Valley golf course is very difficult to par, especially from the back tees.
The golf course is the closest course to Chiang Mai
and is always in top condition. The 416 yards, par 4, 9th hole provides a memorable golf experience. The tee shot must carry over water and the fairway has sand traps left and right at the landing area. The 2nd shot is also over water to an elevated island green encircled by big palm trees.
This top course nearest to Chiang Mai city should be part of every Chiang Mai golf holiday. It is a great golf course to include, especially as part of Chiang Mai golf packages that include golf on the same day of arrival or departure from Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai Highlands Golf and Spa

The Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Club opened only in 2005 and adds to the range of Chiang Mai’s golf courses. The drive to the course from Chiang Mai city leads through exceptionally beautiful landscape, in eastern direction along extensive rice fields into the mountains.

The Chiang Mai Highlands golf course is built on a ‘power spot’ – the hermitage of Kuba Sivichai (the revered monk who founded the famous temple on Doi Suthep). This very special site is breathtaking in every direction and literally tingles with an energetic aliveness. Its profound tranquility, high elevation, cool climate, fresh air, pure water, and fertile soil, form the perfect place to sculpt a living golf treasure.

Chiang Mai Highlands was designed by Schmidt-Curley, the same team responsible for the redesign of Muang Kaew Golf Course in Bangkok and many of Asia’s exciting new courses. The course itself is set in the hills outside Chiang Mai, giving golfers the distraction of magnificent views on every hole. The golf course is exciting and challenging for a player of any level and offers the choice of 5 different tee boxes. As golfers tee-off from the first tee and stroll along lush Paspalum grass fairways, a sense of golfing adventure starts. They are surrounded by magnificent views of the entire course and the mountain skyline in the background, there are over 100 fairway and greenside bunkers. From the inviting downhill 1st hole, the golf course effortlessly flows along, gaining strength, beauty, and character with each passing hole until its thrilling, dramatic finish on the unforgettable 18th.

The large and undulating greens are not easy to play, especially since they are protected by several bunkers. Bunkers and water hazards provide the distinctive note of this course and require a strategic game.
A nice clubhouse with pleasant atmosphere and all facilities provides relaxation before or after the golf round. Chiangmai Highlands has a superbly maintained practice facility including several practice greens, a short game area and a superb 300 yard driving range with a grass tee.

Chiangmai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort was voted #3 for "Best New Course in Asia" by Asian Golf Monthly in 2007. Chiangmai Highlands is one of the best among new breed golf courses in Thailand, and a must play as part of all Chiang Mai golf holidays.

Chiangmai Highlands, designed by Schmidt - Curley, is the creative team responsible for the redesign of Muang Kaew Golf Course in Bangkok as well as many of Asia's exciting new courses.
The course opened December 24, 2005 and located next to is the hills east of Chiang Mai. Golfers have a magnificent view from every hole. The course is exciting and challenging for a player of all abilities.

Chiang Mai Lamphun Golf Club

A challanging & mature golf course lying at the heart of northern Thailand’s most beautiful scenery, Chiangmai Lamphun Golf Club is a dream come true for golfers looking for a traditional Thai golf course.
Chiangmai Lamphun Golf Club was the first private golf course of northern Thailand and is set a nature sanctuary in the Chiang Mai area foothills, amid an enchanting forest of golden teak trees.
This 18 hole, par 72, 7,022 yard masterpiece, the official venue for the 18th Southeast Asian Games in 1995, meanders through breathtaking landscaping, mature forest, radiant flowering flora and across refreshing streams, ponds and lakes. Thousands of trees and the scenic views of rolling hills gives the course a distinctively northern Thailand feel. With contoured terrain, creeks, imaginative water hazards, and creative bunkering designs, the course requires precise play. The signature 9th hole requires an exacting tee shot to be placed between two water hazards lining the fairway and the demands a long iron shot to carry over a big pond on to a sloping green.
Chiangmai Lamphun Golf Club’s contoured terrain offers a challenge to golfers of all handicaps, whilst its enchanting natural surroundings makes you feel like you are playing is a giant garden. Chiangmai Lamphun Golf Club should not be missed by any northern Thailand golfing visitor.

Located only 25 kms from the city of Chiangmai, The Chiangmai-Lamphun Golf Club nestles among northern Thailand's most beautiful mountain scenery - in a natural valley surrounded by magnificent rolling hills. Its tranquil landscape is set amidst a rich foliage and dotted with traditional Thai-styled buildings -- giving this course its distinctly northern Thai character. Apart from the charms of its natural beauty, and more importantly for the serious golfer - are the challenges its contoured terrain brings.
Interspersed with creeks and water hazards, this 18-hole championship course, 7022 yards, part 72, will attract golfers of all handicaps.
Indeed so picturesque is the course that a round of golf here is like a walk in the garden of paradise.
Little wonder then that golfers and their families come back time and time again.
Established in 1990, Chiangmai-Lamphun Golf Club is the first private golf course of Northern Thailand. Its record of hosting some of the most prestigious international golf tournaments to-date includes:
• The Official Golf venues of 18th Sea Games 1995

Chiangmai Gassan Khuntan Golf Resort

Gassan Khuntan is located in Khuntan National park 500 meters above sea level. This very challenging golf course features Bermuda grass fairways and Tidwarf greens with impressing views on both sides of Doi Khuntan Mountain ranges and a scenic backdrop of the famous railway bridge & tunnel, and waterfalls. Adding to the scenery at Gassan Khutan are carefully planned and well tended flower beds that blend well with and emphasize the natural panoramic mountain views. Gassan Khuntan’s design features many sharp doglegs, island greens, water to carry on many holes, and steep-edged grass bunkers throughout the golf course. The layout is on par to other famous world class championship golf courses.

Hole 5 is an especially challenging 163 yard par 3 with a small island green. It offers true challenge to golfers of all handicaps. The ideal tee shot requires an accurate shot to the middle of the island green to avoid the surrounding water and green side bunkers. For those fortunate to land tee shot safely on the green, a justly rewarded birdie is a good possibility. Any tee shot that lands in the water, or in the greenside bunker will easily end up with a bogey or worse. Whatever the outcome, the breathtaking 360 degree scenic view of the mountains, with the famous Khuntan railway bridge as a backdrop is most impressive.

The clubhouse at Gassan Khuntan is naturally blended with surrounding scenic landscape, it is fully equipped with spacious locker rooms, a well stocked pro shop, and full service restaurant. Other Gassan facilities include chipping & putting greens, and a large driving range.
As of February 2007 Gassan Khuntan is now one of the 2 best courses in Chiang Mai area and a must play for any golf traveler to northern Thailand. The layout is not for the faint hearted, and golfers of all handicaps will be challenged to the fullest!

Designed by Mr.Pravit Reang –Po in 2004, Gassan Khuntan is situated in the Doi Khuntan national park which has many historical sites to boast of such as the Khuntan tunnel and the Khuntan railway bridge.
This well built course manipulates a river, set in tall trees with undulating greens and crowned fairways even the best of golfers will find it challenging. For the experienced golfer who wishes to take on a lot of water or risk a short cut over many bunkers, this is the perfect course to test their abilities; however for the novice golfer this course can really improve your confidence. The course is set out over 7,062 yards and it has a par of 72 over 18 holes.

Chiang Mai Gassan Lake City Golf Club

Experience the charm of Northern Thailand at Chiang Mai’s newest championship golf course. Also a target golf and risk-reward layout, Lake City has expansive water hazards on every hole. Many of the par-4’s can be driven, yet danger lurks. The short approach shots to the greens demand precision and proper placement, so Lake City rewards thoughtful play over pure power.

Gassan Marina Golf Club and Resort

Opened in 2006, Gassan Marina is set around Chiang Mai's largest lake, 10,000 square meter in size. Any golfer will appreciate the design of the course with its daunting amount of bunkers, ditches and water hazards.
Set against a back drop of breathtaking mountains with exotic plants, this course had much more to offer. Arabian style clubhouse.

Chiang Mai Mae Jo Golf Club

Mae Joe Golf Club is located behind Mae Jo University, the oldest agricultural college in Chiang Mai. The golf course being only a 20 minute drive from Chiang Mai is very popular with golfers looking for a high quality fun course that is not too far from their Chiang Mai hotel.

Excellent views of Doi Suthep and other mountains surround the golf course. With thousands of fruit trees and orchids alongside its fairways, the golf course looks as good as it plays. The kiosk at the 14th hole has a dream like view as does the 15th tee.

Seni Thirawat, Mae Jo’s course designer, is a poplar local Thai golf course architect. The Mae Jo golf course he designed is well suited for golfers of all abilities. Narrow fairways with Zoysia grass are perfect for low handicap player. Several water hazards and doglegs as well as long par 5’s require a demanding game. The Korean Velvet greens are mostly wide but often with a slope.
The club house in modern Lanna Style offers a restaurant, lodge, and friendly service. Extensive practice facilities including driving range, putting and chipping green, and bunkers are kept in good order allowing golfers to hit a few balls before their round at Mae Jo. Situated right behind Mae Jo University, the oldest agricultural college in Chiang Mai, the course is less than 30 kilometers or only 20 minutes drive mostly along the divided highways from the airport.

The course features rolling zoysia grass fairways and large challenging Korea Velvet greens with beautiful views of Doi Suthep and other surrounding mountain ranges. With thousands of matured Longan, Lychee, Mango, Pomello, and Tangerine trees alongside its fairways, the golf course looks and plays more like a well-matured course rather than a newly constructed one.
The course also features several elevated tees not only to allow golfers to enjoy the panoramic views of the course, the fruit orchard and the surrounding mountain ranges but also to make plays on the holes more interesting and challenging.

From the yellow tees, low handicappers will play the course 6,537 yards long while higher handicappers can play from white tees with the course being 6,199 yards long. Ladies or senior golfers may play the course at 5,511 yards from the red tees.

Royal Chiang Mai Golf Resort

Royal Chiang Mai is an exciting and challenging course for amateur and professional alike, whilst still keeping in harmony with the natural scenery and rolling countryside.
The course was designed by Thomson Wolveridge & Parrett under supervision of five-time British open Champion, Peter Thomson and uses elements from a British links style course, including bumpy gently rolling fairways, pot bunkers and closely mowed areas around the greens.

There are strategic positioning of fairway and greenside bunkers which call for accurate play, rather than long hitting. However, on some holes, the distances to the greens are deceptive and there is a tendency to under club.
Royal Chiang Mai is set in a beautiful valley and the scenery is magnificent. The 2000 rai site, a former fruit orchard, provides breathtaking panoramic vistas of mountains in the distance. The high altitude provides a cooler, less humid climate, sweet refreshing air, and gentle breezes. It’s filled with the songs of birds, an abundance of wildlife, and thousands of flowering trees erupting in different fragrances and colours every month of the year.
At the finish of the round there is a beautiful view towards the clubhouse which features a 54-room golf resort.

A mountain retreat of serenity and harmony. A concept nurtured and developed under the careful supervision of 5 times British Open Champion, Peter Thompson of Thompson Wolveridge & Perrett company.

His vision was to create an exciting and challenging course for amateur and professional alike whilst still keeping in harmony with the natural scenery and rolling countryside
